For precise measurements, a compass is mandatory. The inner ring must be flipped out and adjusted to the geographic latitude. The pointer must be aligned to north. On the inner side of the ring, the shadow of the pointer shows the True Local Time. This sun-dial works on the northern hemisphere only, but has an accuracy of a few minutes.
