This instrument measures the height of the sun.
It was invented in by the monks from the Prussian woods in
the 13th century. The months are engraved on the outer edge
of the ring, the time on the inner one. A small hole must be
aligned with the appropriate month, then turned into the sun.
In the shadow of the inner part of the ring, a small bright
spot of light shows the True Local Time. |
