City Generator

A program from the Bryce 5 times but still usable for Bryce 6.x. A 640 x 480 pixel picture is generated as 16-bit BMP. However, there are not many programs that can open that picture — neither can Bryce 5 or 6, because the resolutions are given as 0 dpi (biXPels/m and biYPels/m). Another problem might be the compression used (biCompr) because BMPs are hardly saved with compression. BMP can store 16-bits per pixel pictures but this is also very seldom used. The picture can be opened by the free IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.de/) and saved in another file format.

Usage of the program is a bit uncommon it can be controlled via the keyboard:

  • [F] switches between full screen and window. This does not work very satisfactory on large screens.
  • [ESC] exits the City Generator. Other opened windows are scaled down.
  • [Arrow v] generates a new town.
  • [Spacebar] saves the town in the directory in which the program is installed. The file name is city.bmp.

City Generator needs Windows, probably from 95 hence, it works with XP. No installation is necessary, just unpack it in any convenient folder. The program occupies about 1.7 MB on the hard disk.
